Although I started lifting weights and paying more attention to what he was eating in middle school, it didn't really look like it. Never really had a hard-core weight issue but spent my high school days being a little more doughy then he wanted. And although I pretty consistently spent time in the gym over the next 20ish years, I continued to be a little too fat and a little too skinny - at the same time.
Fast forward to age 40. Probably should go get an "I"m 40" check-up so off I went. Lucky me - the doctor was 40 too! I was glad everything checked out but I was unprepared for the sense of dispair coming from the doctor when talking about the aging process. "Things change after 40," he said (meaning things slow down and getting/staying in shape becomes more difficult). Then he literally started tearing up. Apparently being in shape as a middle-aged male was hopeless.
I must admit, as time went on and 50 was on the horizon, I thought his tears might have been justified. Fatherhood, work, and the stressors of life were making 200 pounds look like about 250. Enough was enough and I was committed to figuring this stuff out. Surprisingly, I did!
The good news for all of us is that being middle-aged in 2026 isn’t what it used to be. Through advances in health, medicine, and technology we have the ability to live longer and be productive in all aspects of life far more than we’ve ever been. I'm not saying getting in the best shape of my life was easy, but it was a hell of a lot easier than I ever imagined. I really wasn't that far off - you might not be either - but it took coaching and following the right gameplan to make it happen. It took decades but, for years now, I have been in absolute control of the way my body looks.
That same control can be yours IF you are man who rejects quick fixes, won't blame your genetics or age for your condition, is open to change, and willing to invest in themselves and not accept mediocrity. I've watched too many great men disappear into their own bodies and give up on life when their children need a father they're proud to look up to. I believe that helping fathers reclaim their physical power works to transform families and provides other positive ripples throughout society. This isn't a business, it's a calling.
Watch this. I don't always agree with Joe and I'm not saying I'll make you do kettle bells (I might) but he and Tom are on point with the need for resistance training throughout life.
P.S. I thought that was Joe trying to talk to me at the parent-teacher conference.

I'm glad you asked. Let's think about the notion coaching and mentoring, why people do it, and who does it. Most seek out a coach, mentor, guide, etc. because they want to know more to do better and there is incredible benefit in getting insight from people who have been there and done it. I'm not sure there is any successful person in any industry or facet of life that hasn't benefited from a mentor or coach. And just because you get older doesn't mean learning and advancing stops or becomes obsolete. That's why people with mentors in there 20s and 30s will often still have them in their 40s and 50s - and even into retirement. So the right question might not be why someone who's found success in health and fitness (as they define it) has a coach. The right question for someone who is looking for long-term success with their fitness might be, "Why don't YOU have a coach?" I don't think there's a good argument for not having a mentorship dynamic in the areas of your life you want to improve.
I can appreciate your skepticism cuz I was there. I'm a little old school, which probably makes sense since I'm a little old. I still would rather hold and read a physical document vs. reading something on a screen and I would much rather have an actual phone conversation vs. text. Tell me what to do only over a computer or phone? Na. Frankly, however, it was that process - and only that process - that got me the results I was looking for. If you work the process, the process will work.
The bulk of what we do isn't cheap, like most things that are of quality and have great impact. I'm committed to understanding where you are and where you want to go with fitness so we can home in on the right solution - not only for your body but for your wallet. I have no desire of creating a great financial burden for you. If I get the impression that would be the case, trust me, I'll likely say no to you before you can say no to me.
